Lake Lessons to offer Boaters Saftey Course

Lake Lessons will soon offer the Parks & Wildlife Official Texas Boater's Safety Course. Instructors Captain Rick, Greg Lawrence, Dusty Leonard, & Ross Skrudland recently finished up taking the instructor course from the Texas Parks and Wildlife's Selverio Pacleb (pictured with the instructors). Lake Lessons will be holding classes (dates to be released sometime in the next 2 months) for anyone wanting to get officially certified in Boater's Safety. Additionally, if you are between the ages of 13 and 18 and want to operate a boat on Texas waterways, you are required to be certified in Boater's Safety. Our focus at Lake Lessons is to be at the forefront of education and training in all things relating to boating, wakeboarding, wakeskating, wakesurfing, and many other watersport disciplines. We would like to thank Brandi Bradford (Boater Safety Education Coordinator) for working with Lake Lessons to help make that happen.

February 2007
Feb. 17th and 18th: Lake Lessons Instructors attend FreeZride at TSR in San Marcos. While it was a cold day, the sun was out, as was a good size crowd of people ready to cheer on their favorite riders. Saturday started with the cable lake competition where Instructor Witt Finley represented with a first place in the preliminary round. As the day progressed, I was asked to judge the advanced and pro divisions pulled on the boat lake. Instructor, Oury Yarbrough, came off the dock in the wakeskate division throwing 180 shovits with ease and style. Barely missing his kickflip, Oury advanced to the pro finals on Sunday. Whit followed Oury in the Pro Wakeboard division. Even though the boat wasn't weighted down very much on Saturday, Whit still threw trick after trick and also advanced to the finals on Sunday. I had so much fun on Saturday that I had to come back and judge again on Sunday.

On Sunday Whit finished out the cable competition with a second place finish. Great riding, Whit! When it came to the boat competition, Oury stepped it up on his wakeskate, sticking some of his more difficult tricks. He almost landed his wake to wake 180 shov-it, even with a sore knee. Stay out of the skatepark, Oury! : ) Whit tried to end out the tournament with a win in the Pro Boat division, hitting the huge a-frame slider in his run. However, he held back on some of his mobes, and he fell just short of the podium. All in all a great tournament for the Lake Lessons crew. We want to thank Blake Hess and TSR for hosting an awesome tournament. We look forward to seeing you at the next one!
